In this final of four Kaleidoscope – Music Memes concerts, all four performers who have appeared in the series will join forces for a final quartet performance.
Su-a Lee is the assistant Principal Cellist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and a founding member of Mr McFalls Chamber. Her music has taken her all over the world, from South America to the Arctic Circle. Though spending most of her time playing classical music, she also plays across all art forms for Theatre, Dance and Film and perform and record regularly with Scotland’s Jazz and Folk luminaries. She recently took part in Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble’s Global Musicians Workshop.
Rihab Azar is from the Syrian city of Homs. She studied at the Conservatoire of Damascus under such masters as Askar Ali Akbar and Issam Rafea. In 2014, She became the first woman oudist to perform accompanied by the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music. Since moving to the UK in 2016 under the Migrant Talent scheme she has performed with the London Sinfonietta and at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Shu Jiang is an ethnomusicologist and expert player of Chinese zithers (zheng and qin) with a special interest in the music of China. From a family of folk musicians she learned to play Chinese zithers – the 21-stringed zheng and 7-stringed qin – in her childhood. She worked as a full-time lecturer in Musicology at the Department of Music, Xiamen University, China and is now an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield. She has a particular interest in cross cultural exchange of East Asian music in the context of Western music and works alongside a range of composers and world musicians in the UK.
Luke Daniels is a multi-instrumentalist specialising in button accordion and melodeon Luke has enjoyed a long career collaborating with a range of artists and organisations as a means of promoting folk music. Riverdance, London Jazz Festival, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Celtic Connections and English National Opera.

This concert is part of Kaleidoscope – Music Memes, a series of four folk and world music concerts hosted by acclaimed folk musician and singer Luke Daniels.
The series will showcase world-class performers from Syria, China and South Africa in duo concerts, and will culminate in a final quartet performance featuring all four performers.
