Wild Contemporary World Music
Subhira Quintet are one of the main world music bands from Chile, with a career more than thirty years long, and twenty-one released albums. They come to The Met as part of their first ever UK tour.
Their music combines the ethnic roots of Chile and other countries with classical music, jazz and South America’s rich traditional dancing music. They are a band that will surely warm the hearts of club-goers as well as the fans of folk, ethnic, world music and jazz.
The soul of the band is Rodrigo Cepeda, alias Subhira. He graduated as composer from the “Modern School of Music” getting a post graduate specialisation and later a Master of the Arts in composition from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Chile in Santiago. After more than thirty years on stage, he has released twenty one albums, played hundreds of concerts and international tours.
Joining Subhira for this tour are world class Eslovenian violin player Petra Onderufova, Belgian flute player Juliette Ferreira (flute professor from the Koninklij Conservatory of Music in Belgium), Chilean-Catalonian drummer Pau Zañartu, and Chilean cellist Javiera Cienfuegos (from the Westfälische Wilhelms – Universität from Münster-Germany).
