A Unique Theatrical Experience
Join us for an extraordinary evening showcasing authentic recovery stories through the voices of real people with lived experience. This isn’t traditional theatre – it’s something completely different and deeply moving.
Who This Event Is For:
- Anyone with lived experience of addiction seeking inspiration and connection
- Family members and friends supporting loved ones in recovery
- Recovery and support professionals from third sector and public services
- Theatre enthusiasts looking for authentic, non-professional storytelling that challenges conventional performance boundaries
What Makes This Special: Bury’s very own Anonymous Drama recovery group has been meeting weekly at The Met since June, creating recovery-themed monologues, sketches, and spoken word pieces. These aren’t actors – they’re real people sharing real experiences through the safety of creative expression. Like ‘drama therapy’ for people who usually have no interest in drama, where recovery takes centre stage, not performance.
The Experience: Witness something unique – authentic voices speaking truth about recovery journeys, family reconciliation, and personal transformation. Each piece emerges from collaborative group work where participants explore recovery themes through fictional characters, creating powerful narratives that resonate with universal experiences of struggle, hope, and healing.
Why Attend: Whether you’re in recovery yourself, supporting someone who is, working in the field, or simply curious about innovative community theatre, this event offers rare insights. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of addiction, recovery, and the power of creative expression to heal and transform lives.
This is recovery stories told by those who’ve lived them – raw, honest, and ultimately hopeful.
The script reading will last an estimated 1 hour and at 8pm will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A where the audience can ask the delivery team and participants recovery and/or program related questions.
