A celebration of the life and career of Bury-born writer, comedian, performer and director Victoria Wood, featuring a cast of her friends and colleagues, including Thelma Barlow, Duncan Preston, Bernard Wrigley, Graham Lappin, Liz Hume-Dawson and Sally Bankes.
Victoria Wood’s friends and colleagues come together for a night of music, comedy and memories in support of Bury Hospice. On the weekend of what would have been Wood’s birthday, director Noreen Kershaw has assembled a variety evening very much in the spirit of one of Britain’s best loved entertainers.
Actors Thelma Barlow and Duncan Preston, co-stars from Wood’s popular sitcom Dinnerladies, will be sharing memories and discussing what made Victoria such a popular performer.
Entertainment on the night will come from names including the Bolton Bullfrog Bernard Wrigley and singer of songs Graham Lappin, plus memories and monologues from Sally Bankes.
Liz Hume-Dawson will be the Woman In Queue and Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening, with more musical guests to be announced.
Bury-based actor and director Noreen Kershaw, who is co-ordinating the evening, said “I once played a carrot for Victoria Wood! It’s a privilege to remember such a special person and talent … and for those memories to go towards helping such a special place as Bury Hospice.”
This event takes place as part of a weekend of celebrations of Victoria Wood’s impact and influence in Bury. A statue unveiling will take place at Library Gardens on Friday 17 May at 2pm. Bury Art Museum will be opening their doors on Sunday 19 May from 12-4pm (in addition to regular opening hours) for visitors to enjoy the gallery’s exhibition of Victoria’s scripts, notebooks, awards and costumes.
Unfortunately Shobna Gulati is no longer able to appear.
