Fifteen talented young musicians from across the north-west came to The Met this July to spend five days working with the band PINS, as part of a project organised by Brighter Sound. The project was their first in-person music project since the pandemic began.

Together they learnt about the band’s artistic process – from initial ideas to onstage transformation – and wrote and recorded an EP of new songs. The week culminated with a live performance on the stage of The Met’s Derby Hall.

Singer-songwriter Maisie said “After a long time of not working with other musicians or working on projects, I’ve been reminded of what I love and have always wanted to pursue.”

Over the course of the week the group created 7 brand new tracks and added their own artistic flair to 5 PINS songs, which they took to the stage to perform live on the final day. For some, like guitarist Etienne, this was their first time performing. He says “It was incredible, I won’t forget it. Playing live has given me a new perspective on performing for others.”

Throughout the week the group also took part in a series of workshops giving them an insight into different aspects of the music industry, including press, publishing, band management and wellbeing.

Bassist Lala found the talk about mental health particularly helpful. “It’s given me a larger awareness of what to expect as a musician,” she says. Bradley adds “I didn’t know anything about sync tracks before, and I feel far more confident about finding a manager and getting my music out there now.”
