This beautiful and riveting 1953 film is the definitive record of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s famous ascent to the summit of Mount Everest.
The Met is showing The Conquest of Everest as a prelude to our premiere of Top of the World, a brand new play about Hillary and Tenzing’s climb from Liverpool’s Spike Theatre Company.
Mark Smith, the Director of Top of the World, will be present at Conquest of Everest to explain how the film inspired Spike to create the play.
