In September 2012 Sam Carter, winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Newcomer, travelled to Atlantic Canada to spend time developing new material with Canadian artist Catherine MacLellan, as part of an English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) international exchange in partnership with Music Prince Edward Island. The pair toured the Canadian East Coast and will be reunited, this October, to conclude the project with a short UK tour. This is a one off opportunity to see their unique collaboration as well their own solo material.

Maz O’Connor started singing at Folkworks summer schools as a teenager and then as guest singer with Last Orders, winners of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. After several summers of festivals with Last Orders and three years out to study for an English degree, Maz released her debut album, Upon a Stranger Shore in July 2012. In early 2013 Maz and the EFDSS were awarded funding by the BBC Performing Arts Fund, for Maz to spend a year working with EFDSS as a creative fellow. She is one of 19 UK based artists supported by the scheme for 2013 and was nominated for the Horison Award for Best Newcomer this January.
