Skilfully performed instrumental music deeply rooted in the Scottish tradition.

Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton, two of Scotland’s most prominent musicians, bring together original compositions from their highly acclaimed albums, Symbiosis I and II, ranging from high octane jigs and reels to beautifully melodic slow airs. The music is a masterful blend of the old and the new, mixing in elements of traditional, rock and electronic.

Their arsenal is made up of bagpipes, whistles, guitars, cittern, drums, and electronics. Modern Scottish folk music at its mightiest; you’ll be sure to be set alight.

The boys will be joined by two of Scotland’s finest musicians, Paul Jennings of Croft no 5 fame, and Jenn Butterworth from Kinnaris Quintet.

Reviews

“Skilful acoustic instrumental playing is elaborated and developed into bold, funky, adventurous arrangements that sometimes transform into full on Folk Rock, like Treacherous Orchestra on Acid.”

fRoots

“Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton must surely be two of the most prolific young men around in Scottish music at the moment. Working on a dizzying variety of (often award-winning) projects their output never seems to falter. Symbiosis II is another superb addition to the catalogue... lyrical and breathy, writhing and sinuous, beefy and muscular – and every shade in-between.”

folking.com

“Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton have once again proven themselves to be not only masters of Scottish traditional music but at the very forefront of the movement that continues to breathe new life into the music, inspiring the next generation. Symbiosis II is truly hypnotic.”
