“Avant Folk, Cinematic arrangements and big riffs” Vents Magazine

Following a summer season of acoustic and electric shows, Moulettes are delighted to come to The Met as part of their Canadian and UK acoustic tour in celebration of their gigantic and groundbreaking fifth album project, Xenolalia.

Stretching the boundaries of expectation as they move between cellos, classical and steel string guitars, viola, piano, violin, harp, percussion and harmony vocals, be prepared to question all you think you know about the traditional chamber ensemble! This is eclectic music for indie, experimental, folk and classical lovers alike; a delicious interplay of dramatic orchestration, big riffs, string baths and kaleidoscopic lushness.

Through this daring ensemble, Moulettes explore the resonant beauty of these acoustic instruments with ambition, ingenuity and poise. The musical tension between the acoustic and electric outfits has informed everything that the Moulettes have done up till now, but Xenolalia sees this ongoing duel in their mission explode into three more ensembles.

Xenolalia is fifty five pieces of music; eleven songs told five ways by five ensembles: acoustic, electric, a cappella, horns and electronica. It will culminate in a double vinyl release of both electric and acoustic ensembles facing off; whilst supported by horns, a capella and electronica versions in an epic collection of bonus digital material.

Cerys Hafana

Support comes from Cerys Hafana, a composer and multi-instrumentalist who mangles, mutates, and transforms traditional music. She explores the creative possibilities and unique qualities of the triple harp, and is also interested in found sounds, archival materials and electronic processing. She comes from Machynlleth, Wales, where rivers and roads meet on the way to the sea.
