A rare chance to see one of Irish music’s supreme trios plying their trade.
Mairtin O’Connor (accordion) is joined by one of Ireland’s greatest fiddlers, Cathal Hayden of Four Men & A Dog (also on banjo) and Seamie O’Dowd, formerly of Dervish (guitar, vocals) as The Met presents one of just two English shows as part of the trio’s worldwide tour.
Mairtin O’Connor is revered and respected by his peers as the Irish accordion player. A member of De Dannan in the 1980s, he is deeply rooted in the authentic Irish tradition, although with a versatility which also made him a key musician in the early Riverdance tours. His absolute mastery of his instrument enables him to move at will into that rare fifth gear which only the elite of musicians are able to find, suddenly taking a tune into a new dimension.
With Cathal Hayden and Seamie O’Dowd, he has drawn the finest of Irish musicians to join him in a lineup whose music encompasses both songs and tunes, and includes Mairtin’s own compositions as well as traditional material.
