LOUD showcases the most fabulous of rising stars from across Bury and beyond. Expect tantalising musicians, side-splitting comedians, captivating dancers and a line-up of talented additions for your delight on a monthly basis. Thursdays have never been so exciting!
September’s event will feature Val the Brown Queen, Maisy Whipp, and King Navassa. Your host for the evening will be Mancunian writer, actor and activist Nathaniel J Hall, Artistic Director of Dibby Theatre.
Val the Brown Queen
Val the Brown Queen is a trailblazing brown trans queen, celebrated as the ‘Desi Doll’ and ‘Bollywood Bombshell In A Burkha’. Val is a star of the critically acclaimed film UNICORNS, which released in cinemas nationwide on 5 July, and has been praised by The Guardian for “stealing practically every scene she is in”. Val’s performances fuse lipsync comedy with powerful political art, captivating audiences with her sharp wit and vibrant presence.
Pop, Soul & Glitter with King Navassa!
King Navassa is a pop/soul/funk vocalist, songwriter, and media personality from Manchester, whose roots intertwine with the rich tapestry of Afro-Caribbean, and British heritage. His music is a testament to his diverse lineage, weaving together a mosaic of influences that mirrors the kaleidoscope of his cultural background. His soulful renditions take familiar favourites to new heights, leaving you with a heart full of joy and a groove that won’t quit.
This electrifying act is a soulful celebration, blending timeless classics and fresh sounds with King Navassa’s joyous flare. His masterful voice elevates familiar favourites, soaring from smooth and soulful to vibrant and uplifting, creating an unforgettable musical journey.
Maisy Whipp
Maisy Whipp is a performer, comedian and producer from the north. Her work explores Disney-esque characters, the influence of fairytales and the reality of happily ever afters in the modern world. Maisy’s love for musical theatre and finding the funny translate into her latest venture – a one woman fairytale cabaret!
Join Maisy on her journey to find the elusive Fairy Godmother! From the enchanted forests of Blackburn to the mystical realms of Salford, viewers are transported to a realm where dreams and reality intertwine. Maisy uses song and spellbinding stand up to weave a tale of determination, magic, and self-discovery.
Supported by a Progress Bursary from the Greater Manchester LGBTQ+ Arts and Culture Network, an LGBT Foundation project, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England; by LGBTQI+ Forum Bury; and by Dibby Theatre.
