California-born blues, roots and americana singer-songwriter Guy Tortora comes to The Met with his band, a four-piece outfit of accomplished musicians from the UK and Europe.

On both acoustic and electric guitars Guy plays finger style, and is a fine bottleneck and slide player. His playing is not the flashy guitar-slinger style beloved of bluesrockers, but “subtle, beautiful” according to UK Radio 2 DJ Paul Jones, and leaves room for the songs to make an impact, whether on his own compositions or the “covers” he performs that include old standards and traditional tunes as well as songs by more contemporary American songwriters such as Eric Bibb or Kreig Viesselman.

His latest album Bluesman In A Boneyard was well received by reviewers and made it no 1 on the UK Blues Radio list.

Reviews

“Far too often, blues albums end up being hot-to-trot guitar slingers showing off their stuff. But (Tortora) focuses on great songs that are well sung.”

Indie Music Review (USA)

“As much understated soul as anyone has a right to expect. Tortora is something of an undiscovered treasure.”

Americana-UK

“I am very, very impressed by this latest release – as I always am by Guy Tortora’s albums.”
