This is a special FREE Heritage Weekend edition of The Met’s monthly Emerging Showcase, featuring By The Waves, Canter Semper, Rebecca Pythian, and The Far North.

By The Waves

By the Waves are a dynamic 4-piece based in Manchester. A uniquely eclectic sprinkle of soul, dream-pop, reggae, rock and indie make their sound exciting and unforgettable in equal measure. They bring beautifully constructed lyrics, delivered with a signature blend of falsetto melody lines and anthemic choruses, which are layered over driving rhythmic beats and groove-ridden baselines, all topped off with jangly yet dark, reverb-soaked guitar lines and a pinch of synth.

Canter Semper

Weaving harmony driven melodies with earnest whole-hearted lyricism, Canter Semper’s sound drifts in the same stratospheres as The Staves or Wyvern Lingo yet is underpinned with a comforting touch familiar to those classic soul records. Audiences feel transported when watching the group live, and enjoy their blend of rich vocal harmony with unique orchestral style arrangements.

Rebecca Phythian

Rebecca Phythian is a talented actor, singer, and poet from Manchester. A graduate of LIPA, she’s the founder of the critically acclaimed Blue Balloon Theatre. Rebecca’s poetry has been featured on BBC Radio Manchester and in many publications, and she’s performed at prestigious events such as the New York City Poetry Festival.

The Far North

Founded by Lee Wylding, alt-country tinged The Far North is influenced by Springsteen, Young and Dallas Green. Debut Songs For Gentle Souls went straight to #1 on the Apple Music and Amazon charts. 2023 brought Songs For Healing Hearts, more festival appearances, and award nominations. Now Lee’s back on the road, supporting the likes of Ben Ottewell and prepping new album Songs For Weathering Storms for release in 2025. Learn more at www.thefarnorth.co.uk.
