Founded in Liverpool by Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon, China Crisis debuted in 1981 with single African and White. The duo were later joined by Kevin Wilkinson on drums (The Waterboys, Proclaimers, Squeeze), Gary ‘Gazza’ Johnson on bass and Brian McNeill on Keyboards.
With pop music similar to New Wave, but with strong connections to the post-punk movement of the early 1980s (namely inclusion of a broader range of musical influences and occasional flirtation with political commentary) the band had ten hit singles in the UK between 1982 and 1987 and released five albums.
In 1994 China Crisis returned with a new lineup and their 6th album, Warped by Success. A live album, Acoustically Yours, was released the following year to great critical acclaim. The band have since focussed on live performances, playing sell-out shows across the UK and beyond.
