A highlight from the main stage at Ramsbottom Festival 2015 Blue Rose Code is Edinburgh-born songwriter Ross Wilson. At the edge of contemporary alt-folk, Wilson’s music evokes a meeting of Van Morrison and a young John Martyn, both shipwrecked with a bunch of Motown records.

Having previously toured with label-mates Lau, and as a duo with Bella Hardy (in Wilson & Hardy), Ross’ debut solo album, North Ten, was released in 2013 followed by a much feted performance at Cambridge Folk Festival, the main stage at Moseley Folk and a three day stint at Shrewsbury Folk.

His second album, The Ballads of Peckham Rye, was been long-listed for Scottish Album Of The Year Award and features a remarkable roll call of musicians, legendary bassist Danny Thompson, Karine Polwart, Lau’s Aidan O’Rourke and the lead single from Ballads features Mercury Music Prize Nominee, Kathryn Williams.

“An affirmation of love that links human relationships with the natural world. As sublimely paced as Astral Weeks-era Van Morrison.”Folk Radio UK
