On 6th February, The Met was proud to host a brand-new event focusing on South Asian people’s experiences of entering the creative industries. Developed in conjunction with partners on Bury’s Local Cultural Education Partnership (LCEP), the event was geared towards Year 9 students who are in their ‘Options’ process currently, choosing their GCSE subjects to provide role models for young people from South Asian backgrounds and to support them in their decision-making.

We welcomed journalist Mariam Amini, storyteller Basit Khan, Actor and Musician Hamza Medley and TV Development Producer Bhavesh Jadva to speak to the group; sharing information about their pathways, the barriers they have faced and the tough decisions they have had to make along the way as well as funny stories and shoutouts to those important individuals who have provided the guidance and opportunities needed.

It was a truly inspirational morning, filled with insight and honesty and we were thrilled to be able to facilitate these individuals to share their stories with our schools partners, hopefully inspiring the next generation of diverse voices in arts and culture. A big thanks to The Derby High School, Hazelwood High School and Philips High School for bringing their students.
