After a brilliant Digital Diwali last year where we provided lantern kits to families across Bury, this year Walk the Plank and the consortium of Indian Associations across Greater Manchester who made the event happen were back with us for a face-to-face event.
The programme kicked off with a series of lantern-making workshops held here at The Met, and the chance for some local young people to be involved in the filming of a piece of video content that formed part of the digital element of the project.
On Friday 5th November we held our first Diwali Lantern Parade. Starting at The Met and parading through The Rock, local families processed through the streets with their lanterns accompanied by dhol drummers and Bhangra dancers. The rain held off for a lovely evening of celebration, light and colour.
A big thanks to Walk the Plank and the Indian Associations for a brilliant event and we can’t wait to see what happens next year.
