We’re excited to share that Steph Brocken, a valued former member of our team who previously worked as Engagement and Access Manager, will take part in this year’s Great Manchester Run to raise money for Bury Youth Theatre (BYT). BYT is The Met’s very own youth theatre, providing a supportive environment where young people come together to learn new skills and create their own shows. Led by highly trained professional facilitators, BYT helps young people find their first steps on the path to a career in the performing arts or simply provide a creative outlet.
Eloise, who attended Bury Youth Theatre, shared their enthusiasm for the cause and the positive impact the groups create:
I was a member of Bury Youth Theatre at The Met for two years and it was a real highlight of my week! The group was so welcoming from the first day I joined and offered a space to learn, create and try new things in a supportive environment.
Being part of the group really allowed me to grow as a creative and performer as I learnt a range of theatre skills through working on productions, devising pieces and doing drama exercises which also grew my confidence. Having a space to be yourself and learn with like minded people is so important, especially for young people and I’m very grateful to have been part of the group.
Esme, a member of Bury Youth Theatre, added:
I really enjoy all the activities at The Met, there is something for everyone and lots of fun and different activities such as Drama and the Curiosity Club. I have made lots of friends too!
The contribution and impact of BYT is also expressed by parents and supporters:
Esme has really improved in her confidence since she started going to clubs at The Met, she has made lots of new friends and gained lots of new skills such as improv at drama and drawing at the Curiosity club. Esme looks forward to every week when she is at Drama.– Amy
