Keith James brings the music of Nick Drake to The Met.
Nick Drake gifted the world timeless songs that distil life’s deepest emotions into fragile yet flawless lines. Between 1969 and 1972 he recorded just three extraordinary albums, remaining largely unknown during his lifetime. Following his tragic death in 1974 at the age of only 26, his music slipped quietly into obscurity. In the years since, however, a powerful resurgence of interest and a worldwide reappraisal of his work has revealed Nick Drake as a true national treasure, revered for his unique songwriting, voice and haunting beauty.
Singer and guitarist Keith James has played a vital role in bringing this remarkable music to new audiences. Over twenty years ago, he became the first artist to present Nick Drake’s songs in their pure live concert form within theatres and arts venues across the UK. The response was extraordinary, leading to six years of critically acclaimed tours and over 1,000 concerts across the UK, Ireland and Europe, including appearances at Nick Drake’s former schools, colleges and the Glastonbury Festival.
