On 16th September, The Met opened its doors for our Open Day, giving visitors the chance to explore our building and take part in workshops and family activities.

Building tours were led by our very own Nick Smale, who brought The Met’s fascinating history to life. Nick shared his extensive knowledge of the building and took tour members to behind-the-scenes areas usually not seen by the public.

In our Box theatre, families were treated to dance and drama workshops with our Leaps and Bounds facilitator Danielle and our Education and Learning officer Emily. Danielle taught participants a dance all about books to celebrate National Read a Book Day. Join in with our Leaps and Bounds sessions every Monday at The Met!

Families got creative with arts and crafts activities in our Edwin Street Hub, making colourful turtles with our Education and Learning Manager, Kate.

Upstairs in our Derby Hall, The School of Curiosity harnessed children’s creativity through storytelling. This brand new workshop for children aged 10-14 takes place on Mondays at 5pm in our Creative Hub.

Our on-site recording studio opened its doors for the day to show visitors our state of the art facilities. To demonstrate what goes into a recording, our events technician Terry showcased his impressive guitar skills, aided in the recording booth by our Studio Manager, Dan.

We hope our visitors gained a bit more insight into the work we do here at The Met and the services we provide to the community. It was fantastic to see your enthusiasm and curiosity about how we operate.
