Both songwriters have had music featured on TV, radio and film and they’d like to share some of the processes behind how to write and some helpful prompts for times when inspiration doesn’t strike!
The session is for all abilities and we will cover collaborative rhythm making, lyric writing, melodic hooks and song structure.
We hope to have made a new song as a group by the end of the session combining all of these new skills. Our focus is to make this workshop inclusive to everyone with access at the heart so please get in touch with any access requirements.
About Eliza Hull and Ruth Lyon
Ruth Lyon, from the United Kingdom, and Eliza Hull, from Australia, met in Austin at SXSW in 2022. They connected over the shared experience of being disabled artists working in the music industry, and the pressures and barriers that comes with it.
“Together we want to amplify and empower other disabled artists, because as disabled musicians ourselves we understand the extent of barriers that continue to be faced by our fellow disabled musical artists worldwide. Not only do we want to empower other musicians, but inspire them to share their own music and tune into their voice and story so that more people can connect with our unique and often underrepresented perspectives. Within this workshop we will share our own music, speak about our experiences, and enable participants to share their stories, music or just have a go at writing a song. We want this workshop to be fully accessible and inclusive, which means that you can be an experienced songwriter/musician or potentially have never written a song before. Everyone is welcome, and we want to open this up to disabled and non disabled participants. We are so excited to run this workshop, because now is the time for far better representation of disabled musicians.” Eliza Hull
“I am a passionate believer that making art more accessible is not only better for disabled artists and audiences but it also enhances the wider public’s experience and our cultural fabric as a whole. We hope this project will improve visibility of artists from our community to the non-disabled world. We hope to inspire future generations of disabled artists.” Ruth Lyon
