‘Furiously energetic yet organic, celebratory yet cool, this is an impressive calling-card for a band who are soon likely to be making waves around the world.’ Songlines

The East Pointers are three young men from Canada whose talent and penchant for traditional Celtic tunes of decades past greatly belie their respective ages.

Formed in 2014, each member of The East Pointers – banjoist/vocalist/step-dancer Koady Chaisson, fiddle player/vocalist Tim Chaisson, and guitarist/vocalist Jake Charron – is an accomplished musician in his own right, and their union produces a blend of Celtic tunes, songs and step-dances molded into something uniquely Canadian through a history which goes back generations.

The cousins Tim and Koady Chaisson come from Canada’s Prince Edward Island on the exposed Atlantic coast. Here, through six generations of performances and playing, the Chaisson Family have written themselves into the island’s music history. Influential family members include Joe Pete Chaisson (1914-1981) who helped form the PEI Fiddlers Association in 1975 and establish the Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival in the late 1970s. Now the cousins Tim and Koady Chaisson, joined by Jake Charron, carry the island’s tradition forward through The East Pointers.

The formation of The East Pointers was inevitable – when Jake would visit PEI (from his home in Ontario) with any of his collaborators or the Chaissons were passing through Ontario on tour, a late-night kitchen party was sure to follow – fiddles and friends, guitars and Guinness, banjos and bad jokes. As their trunk of traditional and original tunes and songs – some with an Irish influence, some Scottish, others rooted in the Maritimes – started to fill up, the trio realized it was time to put some to tape and take them on the road.

In 2015 they crossed the Atlantic for their first UK tour. Their debut album ‘Secret Victory’ was released in October 2015 and featured 10 original tracks, all penned by Tim, Koady and Jake. The album received 4* reviews from R2, The Irish Post and Maverick Magazine and more, with Maverick hailing them as the band who ‘have arrived to modernize, revolutionise and change perceptions about Celtic, folk, bluegrass and jigs in one fell swoop.’

2017 opened with the astonishing news that The East Pointers were nominated for Roots Album of the Year in the JUNO Awards, Canada’s biggest music awards.

‘Just a powerhouse live – one of the tightest bands I’ve seen in a very long time and so charismatic!’ Timber And Steel (Australia)
