‘a hypermusical blend of styles and traditions’Folkworld.de

Irrepressible Scandinavian folk roots band Basco are fast becoming an unavoidable phenomenon on the European folk music scene. Whether performing as a quartet or with the Danish Radio Big Band, Basco’s infectious energy, virtuosity and inventiveness have gained the hearts and minds of audiences from all over Europe.

Since their formation in 2004, Basco have released several albums, including collaborations with the Danish Radio Big Band and with Danish/Norwegian Jullie Hjetland. Their most recent offering, ‘The Remarkable Return of Old Man Basco’ saw them short-listed for the prestigious Nordic Music Prize in 2014 – the first time in the history of the awards that the nomination has gone to a folk string band. Basco has also been very respectably represented on the podium at the Danish Music Awards, most recently with Artist of the Year 2013 (Cittern player Ale Carr), and Vocalist of the Year 2012 (Hal Parfitt-Murray).

Basco’s music is varied, full of nuance and beauty, of temperament and drive, of grand sweeping landscapes, delicate, fractal detail, and of good, old fashioned, raw, foot-stomping power.

‘Dazzling Danish quartet Basco were definitely the weekend’s most popular discovery, combining unusual instrumentation with tremendous ensemble verve and richly textured arrangements.’The Scotsman
