Jackie Oates‘ unique treatment of English ballads and songs, and pure, haunting singing style has established her at the forefront of the new English folk revival. Multi-award winner at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and founder member of Mercury nominated group Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, Jackie is now a permanent member of supergroup The Imagined Village as well as touring in her own right. Tonight she focuses material from her latest critically acclaimed album Lullabies accompanied by Belinda O’Hooley and Chris Sarjeant.

Bella Hardy is an English contemporary folk musician, singer and songwriter. In 2012 she won the BBC Young Folk Award for her powerful and moving account of life as a 19th century Stornoway Herring Girl – taken from her third album, Songs Lost & Stolen. This year sees the release of Battleplan, Bella’s latest studio album on which she’s given new perspectives to some of her favourite traditional songs and allowed her own life to intertwine with those of the heroines of folk songs past.

Jim Causley, five-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee, comes to Homegrown with singer Julie Murphy (Fernhill) and Ceri Owen-Jones (Cerddcegin) presenting an album of poems written by Jim’s distant relative and celebrated Cornish poet, Charles Causley. Jim Causley has become renowned for his warm, rich and mature singing voice (quoted as being akin to the fruitiest of real ales!) his natural gift for interpreting song and his wry and cheeky stage presence.
