The Commedia dell’Arte was the world of the wonderfully comical figures of 16th century Italy inhabited by vibrant, physical characters: Zanni, Pantalone, Capitano, Columbina, Arlechino, Dottore and many more. They argue, fight then fall in and out of love in a world full of envy, love and revenge.
Their playful, physical style provides us with many sources for contemporary comedy and clowning.
Using all these ingredients The Met’s clown workshop group, led by Gerry Flanagan, have created this performance based upon a 16th century scenario.
