Denis Jones is carving a name for himself as the new century’s answer to the sad loss of John Martyn. He began his musical life as a singer-songwriter but has developed a show-stopping live performance based around the core of his unique guitar-playing style and rich, soulful voice. Utilising a loop station and all manner of samplers and effects, Denis creates vast, complex orchestrations of beat-box rhythms, multi-layered vocals and other-worldly sounds which veer from subtle heart-wrenching folk and blues to heavy bass-driven electronica. Be ready for a swirl of blues, jazz and folk from a man on the rise. Mojo says “straddles the same sinister border between urban and rural as Ken Loach’s Kes”.

Also on the rise is the delightful Hannah Peel who’ll open the evening with her ‘wonky folk pop’. Recently signed to Static Caravan records, home of Tuung, she’ll feature her melancholic work inspired by her heroes, Sandy Denny and Joni Mitchell, in readiness for her debut album to be released in early 2011.

A Mr Kite Benefit.
