It’s that time of year when everyone’s thoughts turn to giving. And at The Met we firmly believe that the best thing you can give someone is a brilliant time. So give them tickets to a gig, show or comedy night in Bury this Christmas.

Throughout 2020 we have big names and rising stars, familiar favourites and challenging new artists. And if you can’t pick for them, we also do Gift Vouchers – the perfect choice for someone who needs a night out but you wouldn’t dare choose on behalf of!

Our guide below will help you choose – or you can browse What’s On for the full selection.

For someone who loves a singalong?

How about GaGa – a tribute to Queen on Saturday 18 January? It’s a tribute to the music of a legendary band played as it should be. Or Jean Genie; an always-popular tribute to the music of David Bowie? The Jerseys are a tribute to the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons who have sold out shows at The Met for the last two years; they return this year on the 13 and 14 February for a two-night stand.  Or 60s hitmakers The Manfreds visit in March with original singer Paul Jones and a truckload of classic songs.

For the eclectic music fan?

Charismatic Nashville-based and issues-driven Americana comes our way with Della Mae for Independent Venue Week in January (look out for more announcements about that soon). Or in March the unique collaboration of Yorkston Thorne Khan come to town; singer-songwriter meets the worlds of jazz and Indian classical music in a thrilling and unpredictable fusion. There are few British bands more underrated yet iconic in the last 40 years than The Blockheads, who play here in March, or Grace Petrie is fast becoming one of the most urgent voices emerging in contemporary folk music.

So they think they’re funny?

Our regular First Thursday Comedy nights are almost always sell-out successes, so get tickets now if you want to send someone for a night of laughs. We’ve got brilliant stand-up shows from Mitch Benn, Stephen Bailey and Bernard Wrigley on sale now.  Or if someone really fancies themselves as a joker, why not sign them up for our Stand Up Comedy Workshop in February; it has to beat them reading out the Christmas cracker jokes.

Let Them Decide

We also do Gift Vouchers; let them make their own plans – you just have to pay for it. We sell physical vouchers, or you can send a voucher (for any amount) to the intended recipient’s email directly, complete with personalised message, to arrive whenever you like.
