We Will Be Free! is a new drama about the Tolpuddle Martyrs, the Dorset farm labourers convicted and transported by an oppressive Government for swearing a secret oath and forming a Trade Union in 1834 to fight against a succession of wage cuts inflicted by the local landowner.

Powerful storytelling theatre, puppetry and animation with musical arrangements from revered folk artist John Kirkpatrick.

This vitally important story is told using the entertaining theatrical style developed through Townsend’s production of Ragged Trousered Philanthropists; through political cartoon and animation, puppetry, and the exquisite musical arrangements by revered folk singer and squeezebox player John Kirkpatrick in the songs and rallying hymns of the Dorset labouring classes.
